The Platform for Children, officially launched in October 2009, has initiated its work and recently held a workshop on Poverty and Social Exclusion for its members, following the decision of the Platform to focus its efforts on work within this sector. Way back in January 2009, Maria Delicata (co-founder of the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association) received an email from her friend Amy Zahra who was at the time receiving dialysis treatment in the Renal Unit of Mater Dei Hospital, to ask her whether it would be possible to have Wi-Fi Internet in the same unit.

During recent meetings with hospital staff working in the children’s wards, Steven and Maria Delicata, were informed of the need of an outdoor play area that could be used by the children in paediatric wards. Although all four wards have a play room, these are all inside and it was felt that children will benefit more if an outdoor area is created.
