December 2008:
Maria Delicata on Sellili

On Monday 22nd December, Maria Delicata was invited to talk on the popular NET T.V. magazine morning show “Sellili” hosted by Claudette Pace. The aim of the interview was to update the public about the success of the Mobile Recycling Campaign that was launched on Claudette’s same programme earlier this year during the month of February and through which Stg.518.50 were donated to the Sick Children’s Trust in England.

During the programme Maria also gave a general update with regards to recent activities occurring within, or taken up by the association.

Christmas decorations for the Young People’s Unit

were donated by Media Consulta Company Limited of Sta. Venera. The company approached the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association hoping to be of help for children receiving medical care in a government hospital. Maria Delicata directed them to the Young People’s Unit and it was agreed that new Christmas decorations will be purchased to replace the ones that are usually put up on the ceiling of the corridor of the unit. The full amount of 130 euros was sponsored by Media Consulta.

More help is being planned in the form of a hands-on activity at the unit which would see staff and management of the company sand and repaint the climbing frame and benches that are in the garden. These were done two years ago by the Fgura Scouts Group, but due to weather wear and tear a new paint job is necessary.

November 2008:

Mobile recycling campaign for Sick Children’s Trust UK - Results are in!

Early in November the company responsible for receiving our batch of 600 mobile phones in the UK informed us that the total of 582 phones which proved worthy of testing yielded the amount of Stg.518.50. this amount will be donated directly to the Sick Children’s Trust fund, which helps families of children receiving medical treatment in NHS hospitals in the UK to stay together. Many maltese families make use of the Trust Houses especially the ones in London which are close to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Daniel’s 11th Birthday. Party for all sick children at Mater Dei paediatric wards

Hi there!

My name is Daniel Delicata and on Wednesday the 5th of November I turned 11 years old! I would be in Form 1 like my cousins Jack and Darren, but in September 2002 Jesus wanted me in Heaven. Up here I don’t have to go to school, so although I really really miss everyone, I surely don’t miss my homework!

It’s our family’s tradition to have a party on each birthday. Since I became an angel, my mum, dad and my sisters Greta and Becky, have been doing a different kind of party – the kind that helps sick children. In the past it was organized for the adults, so they donate money to help the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association, but this year, my family decided to do a children’s party for the kids who are in hospital instead!

So, while I was hopping around and jumping up and down in Heaven, with Jesus and the saints and all the angels (God was supervising and – between you and me - he’s too old to hop around!) the kids at Mater Dei Hospital were having loads of fun too. They had a puppet show with songs from Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club and some real exciting people came to visit them. Winnie the Pooh and Donald Duck were there and they brought with them Snow White.

And the fun did not finish there. Later on a magician by the name of Noel and a tall man who really knows how to do amazing shapes with balloons came round. All the children had a balloon to take home with them and I hope that this will remind them that being in hospital is not so bad after all.

I hope that by doing this party, my family helped the kids who were in hospital on the day, to smile and forget that they have any pain. I know hospitals can be boring some times but thanks to my mum and dad and our volunteers and many kind people, there will be moments when you will forget that you are in hospital and think that you are back home instead! We are planning to hold more parties of this kind in the future.

Your friend in Heaven,
Daniel.

October 2008:

Maintenance of Relax Armchairs

The relax arm-chairs that were donated by the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association through full sponsorship from the Car Importers Association in 2002 were left behind at St. Luke’s Hospital upon migration in November 2007. As these chairs were specifically donated to used by the parents and guardians of children using the paediatric wards, the association felt that it was unjust to leave them in St. Lukes (Zammit Clapp) where they were going to be used by the geriatric patients. By leaving these Relax armchairs in Zammit Clapp hospital, the association would be breaking the rules of its own statute which clearly states that items purchased from funds or donated by sponsors will be specifically used for children using the services of the state hospitals in Malta and Gozo. Although the DDMA were consulted while the hospital construction was under way, when the migration eventually happened we learned that new armchairs were ordered for the paediatric wards. Pushing frustration aside at the lack of respect shown by the migration officers, with no little amount of hassle and thanks to the co-operation of Mr. Richard Cassar, Mr. Victor Battistino and Mr. Alex Buhagiar, the Relax armchairs were eventually transferred to the hospital stores where they are presently being fixed and will be moved to the Mater Dei children’s wards in due course.

In October 2008, the repairs started with the help of Mr. Simon Petroni and his employees. As some of the armchairs were in a very bad state, it was decided that special brackets were needed to be fixed to the chairs to totally prevent further damage when these relax armchairs are eventually used by the public. These brackets were donated by Medelec Company Limited thanks to Mr. Paul Brincat (General Manager).
The Daniel Delicata Memorial Association was happy to donate 11 tickets for the Barney Show that is going to be coming to Malta at the end of December, to the ADHD family support group. The association wishes to thank the sponsor who would like to remain anonymous.

September 2008:

Playstations for Fairyland and Disneyland Wards

The association had installed Playstations in Fairyland ward in St. Luke’s and had been awaiting the go-ahead to start installing the same equipment in Disneyland ward, when it was agreed, due to the proximity of the migration that these will be placed in Mater Dei as soon as the migration takes place. After an impressive long time ( since October 2007) awaiting the permission from the Mater Dei officials for the installation of the Playstations in the paediatric wards in Mater Dei Hospital , our association contacted the hospital’s engineer officials regarding this serious and long outstanding matter and after several meetings with these officials we were promised that the installation of Playstations in all the paediatric wards will commence as soon as the shelves upon which the Playstation equipment will be placed are ready.

MARIA DELICATA PARTICIPATES IN WORKSHOP ORGANISED BY ZGHAZAGH AZZJONI KATTOLIKA.

During the annual summer camp of the Zghazagh Azzjoni Kattolika (ZAK) various activities were held for the youth members. This year, they focused on the theme of the ”mustard seed”, and the aim was to discuss how we can exceed our limits and always yearn to do more in our life.

On Saturday 6th September a workshop was organised with various people and personalities who in their opinion have exceeded in their life, and when it seemed as though there wasn't more to do, these people always found more to give to society. Two of these people were Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Anthony Agius Decelis.

The third person to be invited to participate was Maria Delicata who gladly accepted to meet these youths and give them a talk about her and her family’s experience and how after losing someone so special like Daniel, instead of losing hope they rose above their grief and set up the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association to give hope to other children and above all make them feel happy even when they are in hospital.

The talk with Maria was held in the peaceful surroundings of the Grotta of San Martin in Wardija and a group of about twenty boys and girls were present. Maria’s most important message was to have faith in ourselves and always start by respecting and loving ourselves or else we will not be able to help others. As we start doing this, our small steps to reach our goals will help us be stronger and so help us achieve greater visions. By doing this we will also be setting an example to those around us who are feeling weak and who upon seeing that we are getting and becoming better people after experiencing a trauma in our lives, get the courage to follow in our steps and so, our action becomes a catching positive experience for everyone around us.

Maria wishes to thank the organizers for asking her to participate and for the lovely memento that was given to her.

MOBILE RECYCLING CAMPAIGN FOR SICK CHILDREN’S TRUST, UK.

The mobile recycling campaign which was launched by the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association in February of this year has proved to be another successful fund-raising event – the first one of its kind to be organised by the association.

A total of 600 telephones were collected from the generous public which responded immediately to our call for unused mobile phones. All sorts and models were collected from all over the island, including Gozo. The largest number of phones was donated by the Maria Bambina Primary School of Mellieha whose students collected a total of 84 pieces. A certificate will be issued in due course by the Sick Children’s Trust and presented to the school for their effort. The association wishes to thank all the volunteers who helped in the collection as well as the Maltese media which gave extensive coverage of the campaign.

The presentation was held on Tuesday 30th September at the British High Commission in Ta’ Xbiex. Acting High Commissioner Ms. Janet Hancock received the phones on behalf of the Sick Children’s Trust which is the beneficiary of this campaign and is situated in the United Kingdom. The four boxes containing the mobile phones will be freighted to the UK by courier service. These will eventually be evaluated by a company specialised in mobile phone recycling. Some of the phones will be used for spare parts while others will be sent to third world countries to be sold at a very low price to help citizens of these countries make use of modern day technology at an affordable price. Once the boxes reach the recycling company in the UK, all phones will be evaluated. As soon as the association will have information regarding the approximate value in money that the phones have fetched we will inform the media accordingly.

July 2008:

The Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta,
Dr. Joanna Drake, yesterday presented Mrs. Maria Delicata, on behalf of the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association, the sum of €3.225 collected from donations given by patrons during the 10th Edition of the European Film Festival which was held at St. James Cavalier between 12th April and 8th May 2008. The sum also included the proceeds from the entrance fee to all the evenings of the Festival.

New Kitchen at Young People’s Unit in Attard

After the initial phase which was started in April 2007 which included the removal of old tiles and laying of new ones, repainting of existing window and other plumbing and electrical maintenance, the DDMA with the help of volunteers started putting together the kitchen units which were donated by Mr. Peter Camilleri of P. Camilleri and Sons (Timber Importers) of Marsa.

As the units were given in the form of cut out wooden pieces, our very brave and patient volunteer, Mr. Victor Gatt (Daniel’s nannu) started putting together all the pieces in his own home as it was difficult to assemble the work on site without creating a problem for the staff and patients of the YPU. It was a tough project and it got even tougher when eventually all the pieces were moved to the YPU and started being installed. By this time the summer heat started to get worse and Mr. Gatt undauntingly carried on working in temperatures of 39 and 40 degrees celcius. However, due to family commitments, he had to put down his tools after four weeks of hard work. We wish to thank from the bottom of our hearts Nannu Victor for the sacrifice he made and his generosity.

The work was eventually taken up by another generous volunteer Mr. Joe Spiteri who installed the last remaining pieces and finishing touches. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the work dragged until July 2008, but this is understandable as everyone involved have family and work commitments which sometimes have to be given priority. With a great sigh of relief, and also in soaring temperatures in the high 30’s, Mr. Spiteri finished the kitchen which is now being enjoyed by all the young patients and staff of this unit. We also wish to pass on our gratitude to Mr. Spiteri for his invaluable assistance.

We thank the staff and youngsters of the Young People’s Unit for being patient and making use of alternative arrangements while the kitchen was being set up.

June 2008:

University Employee & Family Day

The University of Malta Community Welfare Committee organised an Employee & Family Day raising €2445 in aid of ‘Daniel Delicata Memorial Association’ and ‘Puttinu Cares’.

The aim was to foster a team spirit among academic and support staff of the University, and to raise funds for sick Maltese children being treated at Mater Dei Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

The evening included sports activities such as a tug of war competition between departments and a tai-chi demonstration, while a four-piece band entertained the guests. A Mass was followed by a BBQ and more live music. The activity finished off with the Euro Cup Final showing on a big screen until late. Prizes for cinema tickets, bowling tickets and cakes were also up for grabs, while food stalls and stalls with second-hand toys and books proved to be popular.

The Chairman of the University Community Welfare Committee, Pro Rector Dr Mary Anne Lauri, and the Director for Human Resources Management & Development, Ms Jacqueline Fenech, thanked the contributors, participants and guests for a successful outcome.

May 2008:

New Kitchen at the Paediatric Ward GGH

The last part of this extensive project at the Paediatric Ward of the Gozo General Hospital was finished by the installation of a brand new kitchen (including a square table and four chairs) to be used by the patients and the staff of this ward. The whole kitchen was donated by Krea. The association wishes to thank Mr. Chris Gauci – Managing Director of Krea for the generous donation as well as his members of staff Ms. Vicky Micallef and Mr. Brandon Theuma for all the assistance they gave us. New plumbing was installed by hospital staff.

March 2008:

Training Session in Arts and Crafts and Balloon Artistry

The Daniel Delicata Memorial Association and Volserv put their resources together and held a successful session for all the volunteers who work in children’s wards. Often times, volunteers feel that they could make their visit in the wards more interesting and animated if they could be more creative with the kids. For this reason, a morning was dedicated solely to this purpose. The first session was held by Mr. Mario Camilleri of Leisure and Animation Enterprises who showed the volunteers present the art of balloon making. Amid bursts of balloons and bursts of laughter, the ladies present twisted and turned balloons to make colourful shapes of birds, rabbits, hats and swords which would enlighten any child’s day.

The second part of the morning was dedicated to art and craft making such as silk painting and glass painting. This session was held by Mrs. Caroline Bianco of Hobby World of Mosta. Mrs. Bianco will be assisting in further sessions on the wards and has also offered to help those volunteers who wish to take more specialized training in her shop. All items used for this session were sponsored.

Also present during the training were, Mr. Richard Cassar, Voluntary Services Manager and all the teachers assigned to the paediatric wards.

Health NGOs, groups and patient representation groups join forces to set up the Malta Health Network (MHN)

13th November, today a number of health NGOs, groups and patient representation groups joined forces to set up formally the Malta Health Network (MHN) at St James Cavalier Valletta. The network was initiated informally at the start of this year following an invitation by Malta Resource Centre to all health NGOs. A coordination Committee was set up made up of different representatives from different NGOs and groups. The committee held several meetings to set the aims and objectives of the network and to draft a statute to give the network a legal status as an association.

The mission of the network is to represent in Malta, in the EU and Internationally the interests of patients and health of the community developing better coordination, collaboration, and capacity building through exchange of best practice among Health related Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), not for profit organisations (NPOs) and patient representation groups (PRGs).

The objectives are:
  1. To give patients a voice on health related issues in Malta and beyond.
  2. To influence health related policies and practices for the welfare of the community.
  3. To establish a framework to facilitate communication on health related and patient concerns between NGOs, Not for Profit Organisations (NPOs) and Patient Representations Groups (PRGs) and the Ministries / authorities and the community.
  4. To promote the representation of Health NGOs, NPOs and PRGs in National, European and International fora.
The Malta Health network will be affiliated with the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA). Over 100 local, national, regional and European non-governmental (NGOs) and not-for-profit organisations are members of the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA). EPHA membership organisations work individually and collectively to promote and protect the health interests of people living in Europe.

The official launch was addressed by the Hon Minister Louis Deguara from the Ministry of Health, Elderly and Care in the Community. Dr Deguara said that NGOs and patients representatives have a key role in shaping effective health policies since they are close to the service users and are aware of their needs furthermore the minister praised the initiative of the Malta Health Network which can play an important role to enhance the participation of civil society in the development of health national action plans.

The newly elected president of the Malta Health Network, Mr Anthony Guillaumier stated that the Malta Health Network main responsibility is to give a voice to the patients and health service users. The executive committee will be working to develop the necessary systems to allow this. This will mainly be done through the use of focus groups and working groups.

Mr Godfrey Kenely Director Malta Resource Centre (MRC) explained that MRC, which is part of SOS Malta, is providing administrative back up to the Malta Health Network including the provision of a base, facilitation of events, meetings, communication and documentation. MRC provides such back also to European Antipoverty Network Malta and to the National Federation of NGOs of Malta.

MOBILE PHONE RECYCLING CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED IN AID OF SICK CHILDREN’S TRUST, UK.

Dear Friends,

As most of you know, the aim of the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association is to “Improve the Quality of Life of Sick Children in Hospitals”.  For this reason, the association is actively supporting an initiative being undertaken by the Sick Children's Trust. This Trust based in the UK provides temporary accommodation for families whilst their dear ones are receiving treatment with the aim of keeping families together.

Many Maltese families also make use of the houses funded by this Trust.  I and my family have also experienced the benefits of Trust Houses first hand when I spent five months at a stretch in London with our beloved son Daniel and consecutive weeks in later years when Daniel was undergoing further interventions and tests. Believe me, the accommodation, in such a physically, emotionally and financially stressful period, was a "God Send". These houses also cater for more than the parents, so those visiting with their other children can stay together in a bigger apartment. All apartments are kept in tip-top condition and offer a refuge at the end of an exhausting and stressful day of check-ups, tests, and maybe some sad news.

Anyone who has experienced such a trauma knows how difficult these separations from family and friends are not to mention the apprehension and tension that accompanies a serious illness as well as the long-term consequences on the family of the sick child.

Please pass on the word, print the poster and ask your colleagues, family and friends to pass on any mobile phones that they are not using.  As the attached documents explain, a minimum of 50p for each mobile will be forwarded to the Sick Children’s Trust.

So, dear friends and acquaintances, who always tell me “Whenever you need help, Maria let me know” – I am asking you to do this for me and for all the sick Maltese children and their families who go for medical treatment in the U.K.  Just open the attachments – they are self explanatory. More information can be obtained from www.sickchildrenstrust.org.

You can contact me through my daniels@maltanet.net or on my mobile 79408346 or at home on 21579145 and let me know when you have any phones for collection.

I thank you in advance for reading this appeal and for taking action.

Juventus team members visit sick children in Mater Dei Hospital

For the children, parents and staff of the paediatric wards in Mater Dei Hospital, Wednesday morning turned into an exciting and memorable day thanks to an unexpected visit by some of the world’s top football players who make part of one of the best teams in the world – Juventus F.C.

The visit was arranged by the founders of the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association, Steven and Maria Delicata in collaboration with Dr. Anton Tabone LL.D of Renassaince Productions Limited who was the co-ordinator of the visit by Juventus team to Malta. Although the request by the Delicatas was made weeks ago, the hospital authorities were informed only days before to protect the players for security reasons as requested by the team management.

On a recreational day during their short visit, Pavel Nedved, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Zdenek Grygera, Nicola Legrottaglie, Gianluca Pessotto and Antonio Nocerino together with some members of the administration team, chose to visit the sick children who happened to be recovering in the paediatric wards on that day. The tour started from Rainbow ward which is dedicated to oncology, and continued to Fairyland, Disneyland and finally Wonderland. The players took their time with all the patients and allowed parents and staff to be photographed with them signing autographs along the way.

Steven and Maria Delicata wish to thank all the Juventus team members and Dr. Tabone for making this happen and for helping to bring a smile on the faces of the sick children in hospital today.

August / September 2007:

McDonald’s Happy Meals toys

The Daniel Delicata Memorial Association were the beneficiaries of two large boxes of McDonald’s Happy Meals toys that were donated by the local operators, namely First Foods Franchises Limited of Floriana. One of the boxes was given to the School Dental Clinic of Floriana on the 9th October 2007. The toys will be given as a reward to the young children who brave the dentist’s chair! The other box will be delivered to the Children’s Out-Patient Clinic in St. Luke’s to be used by the doctors who attend this clinic who will give a free toy to the dozens of children who visit every day.

June 2007:

Fairyland Ward Satellite System
Towards the end of the month of May, the association was informed about technical problems with the satellite system of Fairyland ward.  Upon checking this out it was found that:

(A) Three satellite decoders went missing. These have not been replaced because of the imminent migration to Mater Dei Hospital.

(B) Two satellite decoders needed repairs-changed main supply.

(C) Rreplaced 12 dvd-players that were beyond repair with new ones.

All this was done in the presence of Mr. Richard Cassar, the new manager appointed for the voluntary services sector within St. Luke's Hospital. Although both Mr Delicata and Mr Cassar agreed that most of these technical problems were caused mainly by negligence, Mr. Delicata gave the approval for maintenance.  This pushed the total cost to LM300.

As regards to the missing satellite decoders which were and still are being kept in the staff room of the same ward, the association has been assured that in the future this will always be kept locked to prevent any more losses.

Cancer patients attend Bryan Adams Concert

As in the past years, the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association sent a group of 20 patients and their close relatives (siblings or parents) the the Bryan Adams concert which was held on the 28th June at the Luxol Car Park. Mr. Rennie Zerafa, who is one of their carers, wrote the following comments to Maria:

“dearest maria

New Vinyl Flooring for Gozo Paediatric Ward

As promised by Steven and Maria Delicata during the initial phase of the refurbishment of the Gozitan paediatric ward, the new vinyl flooring was enhanced by pictures of cartoon characters well known by most children. As these photos illustrate, these caricatures have now been professionally overlaid on the new lyno and have created an even brighter and happier atmosphere.

The DDMA wishes to thank the directors and staff of MPS Ltd of G'Mangia who gave us special prices and carried out the work in a speedy and efficient manner without disrupting the staff and patients of this ward. The total cost of this project cost the association just under LM700.

April 2007:

New Kitchen at YPU Attard

Soon after the Holy Week festivities of 2007, the maintenance workers of Mount Carmel Hospital, started their work in the kitchen of the Young People's Unit in Attard. The kitchen is the second project taken up by the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association within this unit which caters for children with psychological problems.

The association found a benefactor, Mr. Peter Camilleri of PCS Ltd of Marsa who is going to provide all the kitchen units. However it was decided that it would be more fitting if the whole room was redecorated. The first step was re-doing the plumbing and electrical system and now the maintenance personnel are in the finishing phase of putting up new kitchen wall tiles.

A new window will replace the old one and also the entrance door will be given a lick of fresh paint. A more modern colour is also going to be applied to the walls. All items required for these works are being taken from Mount Carmel Hospital supplies. As soon as these works are ready, the DDMA can commence the installation of the kitchen units.

Air-conditioning unit at YPU Attard

Early in the month of April 2007, the DDMA purchased an air-conditioning unit for the Occupational Therapy Room at the Young People's Unit in Attard.

During one of her frequent visits to the unit, Maria Delicata realised that the ceiling fan which was situated in the same room, was of a serious hazard to the children as this was easily accessible if one of the kids stood on a table or chair. Immediately maria made arrangements to order an air-conditioning unit so that the ceiling fan will be removed and this way all danger will be eliminated. As in the past, Mr. Lino Apap of Aplan Limited made special price arrangements and had the unit installed by his employees.

Maintenance service will be carried out on a regular basis by the same company and financed from the association's funds.

Easter 2007

Following last year's initiative, the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association, contacted various food companies with the intention of purchasing goodies for the inhabitants of the Young People's Unit of Attard. However, as happened last year, these same companies were generous enough to donate the goods free of charge.

Mr. Pierre Travers Tauss on behalf of Darrell Lea Foods Limited donated twenty packs of assorted Twistees and other snacks and Mr. Carlos Cluett of Red October Company Limited donated eight large Pernigotti Easter Eggs. Maria Delicata who delivered the items to the unit received hugs and kisses from the children who were going to spend the special day of Easter Sunday in this clinic which becomes a temporary home for them until they are well enough to be joined with their families or legal guardians.

On the other hand, Mr. Patrick Vella, Managing Director of Curtain Raiser Drama Studio, donated a total of thirteen tickets to all the children and carers of the YPU for their fantastic show "A Toy Story" which they had the opportunity to see on Easter Sunday.

Thanks to all these generous benefactors, all the children residing at the Young People's Unit during this Easter could enjoy the festivities and feel special like all other children around the island. The founders and committee members of the DDMA wish to express their gratitude towards these kind souls who understand their goals of making the lives of sick children more cheerful and less painful.

March 2007:

Donation by Water Services Corporation Sports and Social Club

The Water Services Corporation Sports and Social Club was founded five years ago, and last December in the Christmas period a dinner dance was organised to commemorate the fifth anniversary and have some fun like everyone does in that time to the year. Apart from such events and get togethers, the club organizes days for charity and various sports activities throughout the year.

The committee had decided beforehand to organize a raffle in the same event. All money from this raffle and that amounted to LM102 was to go to the Daniel Delicata foundation. The committee members agreed unanimously that the DDMA always does a great job with the money it collects and they felt that they should help in some way. They have assured Steven and Maria Delicata that they will always be on their list of beneficiaries of future fund-raising events.

February 2007:

December 2006:

Hungarian Clown entertains sick children in Maltese State Hospitals

Children who happened to be convalescing in the paediatric wards of St. Luke’s Hospital during the second week of December were treated to hours of entertainment by Zoltan Voros who is one of the volunteers that work with the Clown Theatre Foundation of Hungary.

The Clown Theater Foundation is a philantropic organization that was started in 1996 in Budapest, Hungary. Their clowns attend one medical unit per week. The members of this organisation are volunteers and the presents handed to the children during their visits are purchased from funds which originate from sponsor’s donations and gifts. Doctors, parents and especially the children expect these visits with great pleasure. According to specialists of hospitals, such performances, help to distract the children positively and therefore improves the healing process.

Mr. Voros and another colleague came all the way from Hungary by invitation of the Malta Feline Guardians Club in order to entertain all the kids present during the cat show that was held in the first week of December. The Clown Theater Foundation is looking for improved possibilities of network connections abroad in order to be able to travel and entertain more children in hospitals all over the world.

It was also their wish to entertain children in hospitals during their stay here in Malta. Members of the MFGC contacted the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association asking whether this would be possible and arrangements were soon made for Mr. Voros and his partner to visit the children in St. Luke’s and the Young People’s Unit of Attard. Both visits proved to be a success. A total of four hours at Disneyland, Fairyland and Wonderland wards were spent with Mr. Voros making the children and their parents smile in spite of the language barrier. Zoli the Clown provided all the children with two or more gifts made from balloons which he created in front of his young audience. Another two busy hours helped distract and brighten the evening of the children of the Young People’s Unit of Attard.

The Daniel Delicata Memorial Association wishes to thank the members of CTF and MFGC for collaborating with them during the festive season that just passed and hence helping make their motto of “improving the quality of life of sick children in hospitals” a reality. It is the wish of the founders and members of the DDMA to have such visits to the children’s wards happening regularly. Anyone who will be willing to volunteer their assistance in this matter is urged to contact Maria Delicata on 21579145, 79408346 or send an email to: daniels@maltanet.net.
